Gravity Rack

Gravity rack structure is similar to the pallet rack, which uses roller tracks or bottom wheel pallets. The tracks are inclined at 3-5 °, and the goods can automatically slide from the high end of the rack track to the low end using their own weight. Gravity racks are generally within 6 meters and should not be too high. The weight of a single pallet of goods is generally within 1000KG, otherwise its reliability and operability will be reduced. Gravity racks are suitable for storing similar goods in small varieties and large batches, with high space utilization.

The gravity element allows for immediate fulfillment of space when a case is picked, eliminating the need for pickers to have to reach to the back of racking or shelving to select items. This combined with the option to create multiple levels of carton flow racks, and product lanes within them, delivers a much more efficient, speedy and productive pick process, with increased pick faces created in smaller areas. Gravity flow rack is an effective way to utilize space within the warehouse because of its ability to store numerous pallets at once. This first-in, first-out (FIFO) storage solution is built with high-density steel that maximizes efficiency in the warehouse by expediting product distribution. Gravity flow rack is ideal for heavy, medium good such as cans and boxed food items, where picking density is high, and space is limited. Centralizing strips can then be used at the entrance of the aisle to ensure the pallet is central.

On exit, the pallet is retained by the brake ramps or pallet retainers. There is then the option to add protection at the entrance to the aisle to minimize damage to the roller. When using gravity flow rack, it is crucial that the pallet is of good quality and not damaged as any damage would hinder its movement over the rollers and could cause issues when picking.

Applications

Food and Beverage Industry

Gravity flow racking systems provide the fast paced and readily available turnover of perishable and date sensitive food and beverage products. They are also especially effective in the meat packing industry, as large quantities of product must be stored and retrieved with speed, maintaining a frozen state.

Automotive Supplies

Gravity flow racks are highly beneficial for the automotive supply industry, largely due to the system’s ability to adjust and expand to specific part dimensions. Storing heavy automotive parts on an angled, gravity-driven slope allows workers to retrieve various supplies with ease, while also reducing handling risks.
